Like Trevor from Graham Green's The Destroyers, Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thrones also has a random idea to destroy a home. He and other men from the Iron Islands, his home went to capture Winterfell. Their situations, however, are different from each other, yet very similar. They are different by the reason they do it, the way they do it, and how it ends up for them.

Both Theon and Trevor had similar and different reasons they decided to destroy a home. Theon took over Winterfell, because he wants his father to respect him. He says it's because he wants to get revenge on the Starks, but there is proof that he actually likes them. (Link) His desire to be respected by his dad, however, overpowers any positive feelings he has toward the Starks. Even though the Starks sometimes said mean things to him, they generally took care of him and raised him as one of their own. Also like Theon, Trevor destroys a home of someone he doesn't hate. Unlike Theon, Trevor has a different motivation. He wants to completely destroy Mr. Thomas' home just for fun. Even though Trevor sees feelings as a weakness, he might be motivated by feelings all along. Like Theon, he might be destroying the house for respect. He probably wants respect from his gang, but he also probably wants respect from society as well, since his family just declined the social ladder.

Theon and Trevor destroy Winterfell and Mr. Thomas' home in different ways. Trevor just completely demolishes the house, whereas Theon takes it over and kills many of the people living there. This shows that Trevor is things-motivated and that Theon is people-motivated and how their personalities contrast one another. Even though they both destroy others' homes in different ways, they are both still motivated by feelings and their desire to be respected.

Both situations ended in very different ways. At the end of The Destructors, Trevor doesn't get in trouble. He wins. Everyone laughs. For Theon, he gets knocked out by one of his men and sent off to be tortured and have parts of him cut off of him and sent to his family. These are two very different endings to a similar situation. From The Destructors, we learn that war is unfair and innocent people get punished from it. From Theon's story in Game of Thrones, we learn that consequences emerge from betraying a friend. From both stories, we learn that in order to be respected, one must respect others. One should not destroy another's property or lose his or her trust. Respect is something one can use throughout his or her lifetime, and no known negative things can come out of it.
